Diary of cyclist-the end of a journey

the end

This is the last correspondence I had with this athlete. If you’ve been reading the progression over the past 8 or so weeks you’ve seen the openness, awareness and progress this elite athlete made during out time together. The shift in thinking [alone] was huge for her. One of the biggest ways you would have seen this show up was in her ability to change coaches. This had been a big obstacle and challenge for her but once she developed awareness around how her old coach was holding her back and aware of all the other ramifications, she was able … Continued

Diary of a cyclist-control

women cycling

Hey Michelle, well once again you manage to bring me to tears! You obviously hit some buttons every time you respond. So many things you say are right and true. I am not sure when in my life I became so scared to stand up for what feels right for me, but apparently I have an issue with this. From staying in one too many ****py relationships to worrying about other’s thoughts….I need to stop. My marriage is awesome, this is the first guy I ever met that just loves me for me…and my quirks and I for his. We … Continued

Diary of cyclist-what I want

womens professional cycling team

M: I agree that for you making the decision was the hard part. Now you have to deal with the transition of the change but that’s good. We all have to deal with what happens in transition but that is where we really get an opportunity to grow and learn. And you get to realize that although your new coach is going to be different you don’t need to stay stuck with the situation you were in. You’ve empowered yourself to move forward and go for what you need and deserve. Sometimes we just outgrow the people we work with … Continued

French cyclist Jeannie Longo-Ciprelli waves on the podium after the elite women's time trial 2001 Wo..

G: Hey Michelle. Well I changed coaches. Do I think this one is better? Not on a personal level. I will seriously miss the friendship and conversation. He is very strict and polish. However I do feel good about making a hard decision, I suppose it will take a BIT of time til I see if this was smart or not. Either way it is done and it was hard and I miss my friend -coach..D. M: It sounds to me like changing coaches was the BEST decision for you although ultimately only you know. It did sound like D. … Continued

Diary of a cyclist-decisions…change

female cycling coach

G: hey Michelle, how are you? Wow that was very perceptive. You are right. Yes there is one more person. My coach. In August she was away for 4 weeks, she has been my coach for 4 years. I decided out of frustration to hire another coach to help me with nationals. I needed someone to motorpace me and she was not around. This caused a LOT of tension. First that I did it and second that the guy is someone she is not that fond of. This all came about a bit out of the blue and turned into something BIG. … Continued

Diff btwn racing and training

competitive women cyclists

G: hey Michelle, thanks for making me think. What is the difference, maybe what I expect. In training Of the females I am one of the strongest and some are similar and I don’t feel pressure if I can’t keep up with the guys I thrive on the great training opportunity to have stronger men! Maybe it is others, women and competitiveness that I get nervous about in competition? I do want to improve myself but at the end of the day I do care how I finish up, since it is a race and I do want to win … Continued

Diary of a cyclist

woman cyclist

I worked with a female cyclist for awhile. Over the next couple of months on Saturday I am going to share some of her story and development with you. She will talk about aggression, control, focus, competing, etc.  If any of this resonates with you and you need some support, please let me know. Train hard, do I race as hard as I train?? Is it in my head? G: Hi there, I am an elite bike racer. I am in my third year of bike racing and I want to make it to the Olympics or worlds. I believe … Continued
