Mental Moment-Give Yourself Permission to Lose

In Coaches, Professional & Olympic Athletes

Game overWhat?

Are you crazy?

What are you talking about?

I know it sounds crazy but if you gave yourself permission to lose you probably wouldn’t think about possibly losing; it wouldn’t be a concern. You would not be focused on losing and could use that energy and focus to do it.

You probably also don’t give yourself permission to win. Imagine if you gave yourself permission to win. If you gave yourself permission to win you would not have to focus on winning and could use that energy and focus on doing it.

Hm those sound similar. Fear of failure and fear of success are similar. Many performers are afraid to lose but don’t think they deserve to win. What else is there? There are other directions. Here goes: being able to accept that there is winning, losing and everything in between.

One of those in between places is your ability to be mindfully focused on the process. This way you allow your physical & mental muscle memory to do what it knows to do. If you don’t you are wasting all your practice. You may as well not bother practicing. 🙂 Set goals that are not focusing on winning or losing but on what you need to do to improve.

What’s so horrible about winning? What’s so horrible about losing?

Happy start of the week!
