Mental Moment: Watching It Live

In Coaches, Professional & Olympic Athletes

There are a lot benefits to working with Elite Performers over Skype. Its convenient and I get to work with anyone anywhere. 50% of my clients are remote and it works. However there are some added benefits to seeing a client in action; live.

Last night I got to see my professional tennis player in action. What a great experience! We’ve done a lot of work together since January and she’s gone from being ranked in the 600’s to the 200’s and is on her way to the US Open. Last night tho I got to see the other things that contribute to her performance. I got to see things that she might not see. I was able to observe body language, frustrations, routines, focus, teamwork, how she interacts with coach & teammates, how she handles coming into a match ‘cold’, etc. Even though I am fortunate to be able to work with remote clients via Skype I understand how beneficial it can be to observe any Elite Performer in their environment. When it’s appropriate I observe clients who are local.

Does not being able to observe my elite clients hinder my work with them? I don’t believe it does. My job is to help the client to develop a deeper awareness of all the dynamics going on around them and then help them develop a plan for enhancing all of those dynamics. With that said, it is also great to be able to observe my clients and help them deal with specific issues before, during and after performance.

Not only was is great to watch my client play but it was super great to finally meet her in person. She unexpectedly introduced me to her father who gave me the hugest compliment: “you have really helped my daughter; thank you!”
