How Can I Learn to Play Like Federer?

In Coaches, Professional & Olympic Athletes

FedererOn Saturday Roger defeated Stan Wawrinka in the ATP World Tour finals. At age 33 Roger had won 17 major grand slam titles spent 302 weeks at #1 but this Autumn where he’s “saving match points and conjuring victories as never before” (November 23, Nee York Times) . Age 33?! What a tennis career he’s had. How does he keep going at this level?

We know he has the ability to play tennis (which obviously helps) and sure he’s got a good personal trainer (which really helps) but it’s more than that. Roger is positive and is mentally prepared for every match. The key is being able to stay mentally tough to win 17 major grand slam titles to spent 302 weeks at #1 and continuing to stay that way until his journey is over. I’ve seen moments where he’s started to crack but he’s been doing this long enough to figure out how to regain. The key to playing like Roger is to have a consistent mental game plan that’ll keep you steady and mentally strong but that also helps you be aware when things are breaking down so that you can readjust.

This doesn’t start with your serve, forehand or backhand. This starts with your head. You have to get your head in the game if you want to truly succeed and ever have a chance of playing like Roger and for as long.

I know right now you are saying to yourself, I’ve gotten this far in my physical ability why would I need to have a mental game plan now? I hear your objection and here’s my answer: if you are a pro, how much does it cost you to lose even 1 match? If you are a junior or amateur, how much has it cost you to not be able to come back from a mistake?

I am not saying that the sky wi open up and you’ll win every single match but you will play more consistently and win more matches.

The good news for you is that I will get you started for FREE. On Monday, November 24th I am offering a free online master class. All you have to do is register here: https://drmichellecleere.com/free-online-master-class/

It’s free. What do you have to lose. It will be the start of something fabulous; I guarantee.

Happy week before Thanksgiving!
