Meet Your Weight Loss Goals in 2012
2012 is the year to meet your weight loss goals but instead of trying a new diet or going about it the same way you always have this year is time to try something new. This year you are going to work on the mental and emotional patterns that are getting in the way of you making change.
Do you wonder why you struggle to reach your goals
You cannot change your behavior until you change your mental and emotional thinking. Thoughts are what tells the brain how to move. This is called cognitive-behavioral theory and this is how I work with clients to help them change their behavior and how I can help you.
Pavlov’s developed what’s called ‘conditioned reflex’ . When a situation occurs and you respond and the outcome is favorable, you become conditioned to respond in that way. For example, if your response to stress is to grab for a doughnut and that doughnut relieves your stress even for just a couple of moments (before the guilt sets in) that doughnut has favorably satisfied the negative feelings associated with the stressor.
Are you dieting for the 2nd, 3rd, or 10th time and getting similar results
Is this you? It’s not (really) necessarily your fault. Society pushes this diet and that diet and exercise fads but what most of society doesn’t talk about is that although a healthy diet and exercise are necessary you can’t make those changes unless you change how you think about situations, how you cope and how you see food. Food is your conditioned reflex and when you use it to cope with negative life situations it feels like an involuntary response; because that is all you know. Until mentally you know how to react, respond and behave differently you won’t.
Every time you get to a plateau do you give up
Plateau’s are difficult. They make it seem as though ‘that’s as far as you can go’ and you give up because you feel there is no hope. Plateau’s are part of everyone’s life at every phase. They are necessary and you have to figure out how to maneuver through and around them. I will talk more about plateau’s in my free webinar on December 30 from Noon-1PST.
Getting healthy isn’t just about exercising more or eating less; it’s about having the right mindset
