Mental Moment-Dear Diary

In Coaches, Healthy Lifestyles, Professional & Olympic Athletes

It’s sometimes a good idea to keep a diary of your life even if it’s for a short period of time. Remember the post I wrote about how many of us walk around on autopilot? Something happens…we respond. That doesn’t always work. It doesn’t work when what happens is, a client is stressed out and he responds by stopping at Taco Bell to get a burrito to deal with the stress. How do I help clients deal with that? One way is this, during sessions I will occasionally have a client recall an entire day. Why? As they talk about it the client has ah-ha moments. They start to develop their own awareness. I ask questions to fill in the blank and help them start to make connections and wallah! The next step is to have a client continue to keep a diary to unwrap those macro moments and build awareness. I want my clients to be aware that when they are sitting in an environment where stress pops up they hear it coming. 🙂 If  they hear it coming they can head it off at the pass. They can realize they have choices on how they can deal with it; versus it just happening to them. This is the most helpful way to deal with it.

Write out your day: what happened, when it happened and see what pops up for you!

Happy end of the week!
