Mental Moment-Happy (Solopreneur) New Year

Business mythWhat is going to make this a happy 2014 for you? What do you need? When I ask this question it usually elicits responses such as: more clients, more money, more exposure, etc. You may have gotten some of this in 2013 and are looking to expand in 2014. You may not have realized that you needed it in 2013. It may be the next step in your business plan. Or you may not be getting it because there is something getting in your way.

I’ve realized (time and time and time again) that as a business owner there is no way to know everything you need, to the extent you need it and how to get it. Sure. This is business growth. I keep searching. I keep asking questions. I keep talking to people. I then had to decide what I was going to do and what I was going to pay someone else to do. This is what I would call the functional system of my business. It is always changing and growing…as long as I am aware that it needs to continue to grow and change. The many elements of this functional system get in my way all the freaking time. Uh oh I didn’t know that. Or, I am not quite sure how to do that. As long as I/we are continuing to ask the questions and get different perspectives I imagine that piece of my business to be infinitely (slowly) changing. Yeah?

Here is where things get a bit tricky: even though you know, you don’t do. Why? You may be limited my resources, for example, money. Yep but even if you don’t have money there is something you can do right? Then you begin to venture further into an uncomfortable place because what’s behind it all is that you want it to be perfect otherwise you don’t want to do it. Hm! Even though I could begin marketing on social media by posting my blogs, it’s not exactly (perfectly) what I envisioned but I can’t afford to pay someone to bring my vision to fruition so why bother.

That is one scenario but a very common scenario. Here is my question to you: what is behind you not getting what you want (more clients, more money, more exposure, etc)? Is it a function of the system or honestly is it something mental lurking underneath the surface? A yogi that I used to take Ashtanga from always started class with a lesson of the day and one day his lesson was this: figure out what’s behind the physical manifestation. Is it anger, sadness, lack of confidence, motivation or lack of focus? You can do something about these things. I can help! 🙂

I hope the start of 2014 follows your vision of it!
