Mental Moment-Letting Go

In Coaches, Professional & Olympic Athletes

Wow it was seriously an amazing but challenging weekend! 20+ hours of Bestseller in a Weekend which included a lot of information but also a lot of work got done! Friday night I was in a great head space and even through 8 hours of intense work on Saturday. Saturday a friend of mine interviewed me as content for my book. We audio taped 3 hours of work. I was pretty tired at the end of it and was trying to figure out how to save it from audacity to an MP3. When I realized I had to download another software I went to internet to find it and accidentally downloaded software from a third party ad that was on the same site. My computer started getting getting all funky. Seemingly I had downloaded something that was not good. After several failed attempts at uninstalling it I had to let it go. I went back to my audio file and figured out how to save it as an MP3. I saved it and sent it to a transcriber.

Sunday morning the transcriber emails and says the audio file is not working. She said there are several conversations going on at the same time. She tried to figure it out but didn’t know how to separate them. My tired mind immediately went into anger mode. 3 hours of necessary, intense work was seemingly gone. The transcriber suggested I send it to another transcriber to see if something could be done. Halfway through my Sunday workshop with Bestseller in a Weekend I am having a little bit of a freakout. My instinct is to quit. Why bother. It’s done. I realize many of you don’t think I EVER have these kind of thoughts but guess what? I sure do! In that moment I had a conversation with myself: you can quit but why? You’ve learned so much other stuff this weekend that’s helpful in moving you forward with your book. You have one more day of good stuff to learn so you may as well take advantage of it and then figure out how to handle the loss. So that is what I did.

On a working break I sent the audio file to another transcriber who wasn’t working because it was Sunday. Eh, not really much I could do. He had the file. It was out of my hands. I moved on with the day and was able to let go, relax and take in the huge amount of information presented on Sunday. If I hadn’t let go, there is no way I would have been able to handle the rest of that day. On Sunday I reached out to people I knew who might know some interesting women I could interview for my book and sent out emails to a few of them. It turned out to be a good day.

By the end of the day on Sunday I was freaking exhausted. I was hoping (really hoping) that I could sleep in on Monday morning. We cancelled the cleaning lady. I didn’t schedule anything on Monday morning. It was a great thought but I woke up early. Its as if my brain found some new clarity. I had a lot of thoughts and ideas about what I needed to do to finish my book. Mind you, I hadn’t heard anything about the audio yet but I was raring to go! I started sending emails and making notes…and a couple of hours later finally got the news about the audio. It was not to be salvaged. I said to myself, that sucks but I am not going to let that get in my way! I am going to make this happen. I spent all day yesterday working on the things I could do and put the audio aside. I even set a launch date and sent it to friends.

Stuff is going to come up; stuff we don’t particularly want to come up. But we don’t have control over some of it and need to be OK with letting those things go and finding a way to keep moving forward. If every time stuff comes up we give it freedom to rule, we waste time and energy physically, mentally and emotionally and don’t allow ourselves to do what we really need to do to take care of ourselves which is to take control of the things we do have control over. I also believe that things happen for a reason. I can’t always figure it out, but it always seems to be true.

It’s not easy but you are in the drivers seat of your life!

Happy start of the week!
