Don’t Look for a Book or Presentation to Drastically Change your Life
Drastically change your life in what way? Your ability to learn new ways of coping with mental patterns and emotions. Yes I’ve written books and done plenty of presentations. Why do I do those things if they don’t ‘help’? These things do help educate people and they do help get people to think a little bit outside of themselves about potential and possibilities. For some people books and presentations may help them make change in very small ways but overarching, life altering, behavior & thought change generally takes some work. I always equate it to the physical aspect of performing: it takes some work. If you went to college or trade school to learn your profession, it took some work. The great thing about learning new ways of coping with mental patterns and emotions is that it generally takes a lot less time than learning and being good at a sport, to play an instrument or to go to college to learn a profession and has a broader impact on everything you do.
Why am I talking about this now? This comes up with clients once in awhile so I occasionally like to address it. Most of my clients have tried reading a book or attending a presentation and there are usually some ah-ha moments which is great, initially, because that ah-ha moment gives you the ability to understand that you do need to do something different, it will change the direction of what’s happening now and you can see that there can be a better outcome. The challenge is, a book or a presentation can only address a finite amount of information that is not suitable for everyone, flexible enough to consider the individual or expansive enough for real change to happen.
These forms of communication cannot help you develop your individual awareness, provide the best coping mechanism(s) to ultimately enhance your performance and help you reinforce those thoughts and behaviors so that they become the new way of being. Only you and another human being trained to do this work can do that.
If you are ready for an ah-ha moment, it’s not too late to download one of my free kindles today!
