Mental Moment-The Top 10 Reasons to Tell Your Story

In Coaches, Healthy Lifestyles, Professional & Olympic Athletes

I wrote a blog a month or so ago on how telling my story used to always be a challenge because it opened me up to feel vulnerable. What will people think? How will they react?

I’ve come to realize that the impact of storytelling is not only positive but hugely inspiring and I think one of the reasons I am so good at helping people move beyond mental & emotional barriers to getting what they want is because I’ve done it. I am not perfect (nor do I want to be) and I continue to work on things but I’ve overcome insurmountable barriers.

Sharing your story is huge. Here’s the top 10 reasons why:

1. It can help you deal with things you may not have been able to deal with yet.

2. It allows space for forgiveness.

3. You develop awareness for things that are currently happening and can then make change.

4. It’s inspiring.

5. It opens you up for space to get what you want.

6. It helps other people to open up and grow.

7. You are seen as human.

8. It strengthens relationships.

9. It allows to an opportunity to change the story line.

10. Your story helps empower others.

There are many others reasons but these are the top 10. What a great list of reasons. Aside from the deeply intra/interpersonal reasons if you have the ability to help someone feel like they are not alone and that they can do it, its one of the greatest gifts you can give someone.

Just a reminder that I will be hosting a webinar with my colleague Jennica Janssen on Keys to successful completion of your first half/full marathon this Saturday, August 17, 9 am PDT.

Happy end of the week!
