Mental Moment-I Practice What I Preach and Got Results
I’ve written several blogs over the past year about my rowing endeavors. These blogs have ranged from my experiences with being new at something (rowing), to dealing with fear and slowly improving.
My last Rowing Update talked about how I was using the mental skills I talk to clients about to deal with all the fear, anxiety and pressure (transferring ego & drive from my competitive triathlon days) I was feeling about being a beginner at rowing. In the blog I talked about all the skills I was using and how I was starting to see success with: positive self talk, imagery, focusing on skill and having fun.
I am happy to say that my rowing is going really well. The tools work. I’ve gone from being terrified of a skinnier boat and any small wake to being much more calm, confident and comfortable. Sure I have moments of WTF but they are way fewer. As a matter of fact my rowing team has decided to put a women’s team together and I didn’t (really) hesitate. I say really because I am going from a 10-12 row to 5:30-7:30 am. 🙂
This was the first week. Strength and speed are coming together and fear is minimal. 🙂 I attribute this to (the coaches & time in the boat) but largely because I practice what I preach.
Enjoy Thursday but t’s almost Friday!
