Los Angeles Marathon

Jennica.JPGThe ASICS Los Angeles Marathon is this Sunday, March 9, 2014. The race begins at Dodger Stadium and ends by the ocean in Santa Monica. This will be my second full marathon and I am fortunate enough to be attempting this race with several of my friends. Making the commitment to a 26.2 mile race is always intimidating but it is easier when you have friends and family supporting you. This time around, I decided to tackle training with running partners. Despite being someone who typically exercises alone, I have thoroughly enjoyed sharing the physical pain of running miles upon miles in the rain, wind, or shine.

For all of those people who think they could never do a marathon, for many of my friends, this is their very first race. The training process started running a few miles at a time and slowly building over 4 months to be able to complete a 24 mile training run. Our bodies are miraculous and truly limitless. The limitations we set on ourselves are mental barricades that are established because our mind tells us that we can’t do it. We have to be our own biggest cheerleaders because no one is going to invest as much time in you as you do in yourself. Regardless of your long term goal (marathon, career opportunity, weight loss, etc.), do not be afraid to take risks to achieve success. The hardest step to take is always the first one, but after that initial progress, just keep moving forward.
