Mental Moment-Imagine Getting What You Want
Psychoneuromuscular theory states that through the use of imagery an athlete imagines movements/scenarios/situations without performing them but it’s as if they were performing them because similar impulses occur in the brain and in the muscles.
What: by recreating a peak, positive experience you have had or creating a positive experience you have not had (role model/icon in the sport).
How: through vividness (senses), self awareness (thoughts & feelings), & controllability (quick recall).
Why (use imagery): learn something new, error correction, relax, focus, confidence, injury recovery, etc.
Combined with physical practice imagery produces peak results.
