Many athletes struggle with how to translate their physical prowess into an intellectual arena. In other words, athletes wonder, “What am I going to do when I cannot play my sport any longer?” Contrary to popular belief, many companies want their employers to have athletic backgrounds because athlete traits are very much like leadership traits and these are the traits that make the individual a standout employee.

1. Athletes know how to accomplish their goals –
Athletes do not take no for an answer. If one way is not working, they will try and find another way to succeed.

2. Athletes quickly develop new skills –
Athletes can adapt quickly to various circumstances and perfect the skills that need to be utilized. They understand that not all situations are the same and sometimes the problem requires flexibility.

3. Athletes work well with others –
Athletes know how to play to the strengths of each member of their team. They know that cutting down a teammate or disrespecting a fellow player will only contribute to an organization’s demise. An athlete will often put the needs of the team or a partner ahead of their own needs.

4. Athletes time manage and strive to balance work and life –
Athletes understand the importance of balancing sleep, work, physical activity, food, and fun. This well help the athlete be more productive and beneficial to the company.

5. Athletes have the drive and motivation to practice a task relentlessly until they succeed –
Athletes are tenacious. They have a strong work ethic and the ability to respect and deal with temporary pain necessary to achieve desired results.
