Mental Moment-Peak Performance
I consulted with a high school athlete yesterday. The commitment he has for his sport is amazing particularly because although he wants to play at a D1 school there’s really nowhere else to go in his particular sport.
One of the questions my consult asked me was this: how many athletes use mental training. I said many, listed the level and sport of my athletes as well as my many other clients: business executives, musicians, songwriters, artists, scientist, trapeze artist, etc. I proceeded to tell him that in my years of doing this work retired performers either used mental training and ended up feeling more fulfilled or they didn’t and regretted it.
I work with performers at a variety of different levels. I work with high school athletes who want to get a college scholarship and some who can/want to go pro. I work with Olympians who want an even bigger edge. I search with beginner triathletes to figure out why they fear open water swimming. I help professional athletes transition out of their sport. I assist musicians in moving through auditions. I support CEO’s in the search for their management style. I help songwriters find inspiration and overcome writers block.
Toward the end of yesterday’s conversation I said to my consult, working with me does not mean anything is wrong. People generally don’t learn how to focus, deal with anxiety and build confidence and its important to have these skills because the pressure to perform is going to continue to grow. I am just like you coach but I am a coach for your mind.In the search for peak performance I walk people on a journey of learning the skills necessary to reach their goals; whatever their goals are.
