Time for Change
My recent relocation to the East Coast for a JD/PhD Program in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Forensics has been an interesting experience. Many great life changes have occurred including the opportunity to further my education, experience the Northeast culture, as well as meet new peers and colleagues. However, this move has not been without it’s mishaps: feeling constantly lost in a new big city, trying to figure out the nuances of law school, and not being prepared at all for the change of seasons.
Change is one of the most intimidating and anxiety-provoking situations that arise in life. Whether it is a change in career, location, relationship, sport, competition level, it doesn’t really matter. The feeling is the same. The sense of not knowing and wanting to know is what is unsettling. Start to feel comfortable with being uncomfortable. Many people settle in to a routine and may be unhappy in their lives, but feel like they can’t do any better. There are no gains without risk and without change. Take steps in your own life to control your sense of fulfillment and embrace all the change that comes along the way.
Analogous to my first change of seasons experience, the autumn leaves do not change in one day. The beauty and mysteriousness of the fall is that the leaves change slowly over time. This gives me the opportunity to adapt and be prepared for the cold weather by getting an adequate winter coat. Then spend the winter looking forward to the spring. In other words, change in your life will not happen over night but embrace the excitement, prepare for the storm and look forward to the results on the other side.
Enjoy the weekend!
