Actively Train Then Actively Rehab

In Coaches, Healthy Lifestyles, Injury, Professional & Olympic Athletes

JennicaAfter successfully surviving the LA Marathon in 85* heat with 25,000 other people, it would make sense if I stated that my training was officially over. However, after working out since December to be able to complete the 26.2 miles, the process is only 2/3 complete. Every successful training endeavor culminates with a cool down process. In this case, rehabilitating the body successfully after running it ragged (literally).

Rehabilitating an injury is often the most difficult, most mentally-draining part of training. The pre-race training and the actual race is enjoyable but the soreness afterwards is definitely not. Just like training, rehabbing requires discipline and mental toughness. The physical “good” pain will lead to positive results which will allow the body to recover more quickly.
Develop a regimented rehab schedule just like the training calendar that was created to help get in shape. Be sure to include lots of ice, stretching, rolling, and hot showers…maybe even an ice bath.
